COSMODIVER

The Cosmodiver watch, also known as Luna Dude, was born from a project started on Facebook during the pandemic (March 2020). The creator was a Norwegian, Olé Dokka, executive director of the Norwegian space program Spaceport Norway. Dokka was supported by numerous Vostok fans who helped him by providing ideas and advice.

The name “Cosmodiver” is proposed by Mikhail Bekjaev and the nickname Moon Dude by Kev Arrow Smith. The project is a development of the famous Vostok scuba dude, the famous diver who swims in the ”sea’ of the dial:  Dokka, looks up at the sky and realizes a dial that depicts an astronaut who explores space heading towards the moon, represented by the particular luminescence of the second quadrant. From scuba dude you then move to cosmo diver.

The initial aim was to make a decidedly original watch that was cheap and didn’t exceed 200 dollars. The project was initially funded by Meranom and Vostok and Vostok watch enthusiasts had created a long waiting list to win a sample.

By the autumn of 2021 all the components were practically ready. However, there was a problem with the ring, with some figures that are not perfectly centered. Okka claimed that this ring was not suitable for her project and asked that it should be redone. Meranom then decides to sell  these non-compliant dials for Okka.

From this moment on, relations between Okka and Meranom became increasingly difficult and the factory informed him that Vostok was no longer available to assemble the watch. Okka decided to contact another Norwegian partner. The result will be a more expensive watch with different characteristics than the original design. Meranom instead, begins to assemble the cosmodiver using the remaining components. The latter (dials, hands, dials and straps) were produced in a limited series of 987 units.

The difficulty in finding the Cosmodiver and the rarity of the object immediately made it one of the most desired watches by collectors and not only. For experts it is one of the most successful Vostok products and its market value is constantly increasing thanks to the limited run of only 987 units. This circumstance makes it the most expensive non antique watch of all Vostok production.  The dial is a tribute to the epic of the discovery of space of which the then Soviet Union was, together with the USA, a great protagonist.

It represents a cosmonaut floating in space towards the moon represented in the quadrant of seconds. The blue and black colours of the sky and space also accompany the fabric strap. The Cosmodiver is considered, like all other Vostok models, one of the most durable and durable watches.

Today you can find commercially assembled and numbered Cosmodivers by Vostok and Meranom. There are also numbered specimens, made by assembling the kit cosmodiver

THE NEW 24 HOUR COSMODIVER

In the wake of the great success of the cosmodiver, during 2023 Vostok developed another Cosmodiver project, this time with 24h 2431.12 mechanism in two versions, one classic in blue (reference 14038B) and one with gray dial and strap (reference 14039B). This production is also limited to 900 pieces and the case back shows the serial number.
